Course Description: This course is designed for teachers to integrate music into the classroom through fun and simple techniques, learning basic concepts found in music while designing a series of hands-on indigenous inspired instruments made from reusable materials to experiment on and compose rhythms with. By providing a global immersion into the study and production of music, participants can use their personal experiences, the diverse culture of the school’s student body and reference numerous compositions from around the world as effective ways to explore critical consciousness for a deeper understanding of the school and the global community. Participants will learn various strategies for differentiating instruction providing them with the tools to create and present achievable equitable projects, specifically designed to reach a wide scope of learning modalities and cultural differences that make them better educators, leaders, and artists. Through guided art instruction, participants create their multicultural instruments integrating differentiated instruction into various learning modalities and multiple subject areas.

*To receive P-Credits, participants must be registered with MFTA and on the ASPDP website.

*Note: We are excited to announce that we have scholarship funding to waive the MFTA fee for 5 participants. To be eligible, you must be a DOE teacher at a Title 1, or high ENI school. This opportunity is first-come, first-served. UPDATE: The scholarship spots have been filled. Please check back in our Fall 2023 semester for more scholarship opportunities.
