DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n\nMFTA is pleased to present “Lucky Finds: Second Chances\,” an exhibition of works by MFTA Designer-in-Residence Scooter LaForge. \nLaForge’s work has been exhibited at the Leslie-Lohman Museum in New York\, the Friedrichshof Museum in Vienna\, and the Spritmuseum/Absolut Art Collection in Stockholm. He also designs a celebrated line of bespoke clothing sold through Patricia Field’s ArtFashion Gallery. His pieces have been worn by artists like Rihanna\, Beyoncé\, Miley Cyrus\, he’s collaborated with Debbie Harry and Blondie\, his designs have been featured on HBO’s “The White Lotus\,” and he has created costumes for Madonna’s performances and music videos. \nIn his new exhibition at the MFTA Gallery\, LaForge utilizes his signature brightly colored painting style that incorporates pop culture imagery\, illustrations\, and found objects to create stunning artworks. By exploring and juxtaposing the different reused materials available in the MFTA warehouse\, LaForge incorporates the many imbued meanings found in everything from children’s book illustrations\, to comic books\, to plastic jack o’ lanterns\, to old couches\, to leather jackets\, and much more. \n“Lucky Finds: Second Chances” is on view through Thursday\, September 17. \nThe MFTA Gallery is open Mondays through Fridays from 9:30am to 4:30pm\, excluding federal holidays. (In-person)\nSession 3 — Wednesday\, July 29th (In-person)\nSession 4 — Thursday\, July 30th (Virtual)\nSession 5 — Friday\, July 31st (Virtual)\nSession 6 — Saturday\, August 1st (Virtual) \nTime: 9:00AM – 5:00PM \nCredits: 3 P-Credit/45 CTLE hours*\nFee: $240 (MFTA*)+ $125 (ASPDP) \nCourse Description: In this hands-on course\, participants will learn a variety of new techniques in upcycled artmaking\, drawing from the abundance of paper\, fabric\, and other donated supplies at the MFTA warehouse. Explore bookmaking\, sculptures made without glue\, paper mosaics and more. Participants will be introduced to a series of art lessons that they then are given time to modify and expand on for their own classroom use. \n*Note: We are excited to announce that we have scholarship funding to waive the MFTA fee for 10 participants. To be eligible\, you must be a NYC Public Schools teacher at a Title 1 school\, or high ENI school. This opportunity is first-come\, first-served.
