Opening Reception: “Temporal Belongings” by Natsuki Takauji

Join us on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6:30 — 8:30pm for the solo exhibition opening of “Temporal Belongings” by MFTA Artist-in-Residence Natsuki Takauji. Walking through MFTA’s warehouse aisles, Takauji engages with every material she encounters as if she were meeting a person for the first time. Tracing the edges of each treasure she finds, —wooden bear figurines, children’s leather tap shoes, half-used water color palettes— she tries to decipher their story: where they came from, who their previous keeper was, what their purpose was then, what their purpose is now.

All living organisms follow their own life cycle. Every day, children are born. Loved ones are mourned. Seasons come and go. But how do you determine when an object is no more? In Takauji’s latest solo exhibition, the answer is simple — utility is in the eye of the beholder; “Temporal Belongings” is filled with wonders.
