Celebrate Black Future(s) Month at MFTA

    Materials for the Arts (MFTA) proud to present Black Future(s) Month programming which will explore the past, present and future contributions of artists of the African diaspora.

    For this celebration, MFTA will host an Artist Talk on Friday, February 8 with MFTA Artist-in-Residence, Dionis Ortiz, and writer and creator of The Black Joy Project, Kleaver Cruz. This talk will center on the unique perspectives and experiences of Dominican New Yorkers.

    On Thursday, February 21, artist Laura R. Gadson of Harlem Needle Arts, will lead a workshop, sharing the African-American tradition of quilting. During the workshop, attendees will learn how to blend textiles and create their own quilt blocks from reusable materials.
