    Bygone Buttons Fill a Hole for New York Arts Groups

    When Millicent Safro was shutting down her Upper East Side shop Tender Buttons last summer, she did so thinking she might find a new location for the half-century-old sewing-supply emporium that specialized in its namesake product. Meanwhile, Ms. Safro had to contend with her excess inventory-a bounty of buttons that would take two lifetimes to sell, she observed.
