Connecting ‘those who have with those in need’

Since 1978, Materials for the Arts has been the one of the largest suppliers of materials to thousands of organizations and in turn to millions of New Yorkers. But we haven’t done it alone. With the support of everyday people, corporations, and foundations we have been able to keep materials out of the landfill, enable the arts community to flourish, and provide valuable resources to our public schools.

Four decades later besides our robust warehouse and online donations program, we are proud of the work of our Education Center that develops programming for teachers, students, and the general public emphasizing the value of incorporating Creative REuse into their lives while contributing to a healthier planet. Last year alone we served 20,877 students, 4,811 school staff, and 5,583 members of the public through our education programs.

Friends of Materials for the Arts provides funding for additional educational programs, public outreach and supplemental trucking. The strength of the partnership between the Materials for the Art and the Friends is seeing how shared resources enhance MFTA’s ability to expand the organization’s capacity, strengthen the mission and extend the vision.
