Professional Development Courses for teachers are through ASPDP (After School Professional Development Program). “P” In-Service courses offer pedagogues’ high-quality, convenient, low-cost alternatives to college courses that may be applied to salary differential requirements and to the NYS 175 hour professional development requirement to maintain Professional Certification. Courses are designed to impact student achievement through the professional development of teachers.

P-Credit Courses for Teachers

Materials for the Arts occupies a unique position in the NYC Professional Development community. For over 15 years we have focused on hands-on learning, while at the same time, providing free creative maker materials year-round to all NYC teachers at our warehouse.

Our P- credit courses provide a six-day immersion in which teachers learn Creative Reuse fundamentals to bring project-based learning to their classrooms in all subject areas.

Teachers will utilize prior knowledge, journaling, and research as they learn creative ways to bring creative thinking into their classrooms. They will also share best practices for group work and create oral presentations designed for a wide scope of learners, various subject areas, learning styles, and ability levels relevant to their own instructional setting. Emphasis will be placed on creating sustainable artwork: that which leaves no negative impact on the environment. Participants will receive a course pack of documents outlining pertinent vocabulary and how-to instructions for the art techniques learned.
